FilmGuessr, a daily GeoGuessr for movies
A free daily browser game about where films were really made. Every day it names five
productions, one at a time, out of a pool of 1,743 films, television
series, video games and anime. You click anywhere on the world map, and the click is scored
out of 5,000 on how far it landed from a place the production was actually shot in. 25,000 is
a perfect day. There is no signup, no account and no advertising.
How a round is scored
The curve is GeoGuessr's own, five thousand points times e to the minus ten d over the
width of a hemisphere. Landing 100 km out is worth 4,676 points, 500 km is 3,576, 1,000 km is
2,557 and 5,000 km is 175. Anything within 2 km counts as spot on, because Wikidata records
some productions against a city and this atlas separately holds the streets inside it, and a
player who found the city has found it.
A production shot in several places is scored against the nearest of them. Game of Thrones
was shot in nine countries, and marking eight of them wrong would be a lie about the data.
What you can share, and what else is here
Finishing a day gives an emoji grid you can paste anywhere, a streak that is kept on your
own device, and a countdown to the next five. An endless mode deals fresh productions for as
long as you want, and it is open at any time rather than locked behind the daily.
The board is a live map, so the game itself needs JavaScript. Everything it asks about is
on the atlas without it: the map, every location,
every film and series, every video game.
Every answer is a filming location statement on Wikidata, never a guess of ours, so any
round can be checked against the source and a correction made there shows up here on the next
rebuild.
