Sicily is on this map as a whole region rather than as a place, because Wikidata records 2 video games as set here and nothing finer. The dot sits at its centre, which is not where anything happens: it stands in for the whole area. Nothing is claimed to have been filmed at this point, and no film or series is placed this way anywhere on the atlas.

112 productions were filmed at 178 places inside Sicily rather than at Sicily itself: listed below, each with the place it was shot.

Set here

Video games that take place here. A game is filmed nowhere, so this is where the story is set rather than where a camera stood: a different claim from everything above, and kept under its own heading for that reason.

  • Mafia II 2010
“Set nearly a decade after the first game, Mafia II takes place between two distinct time periods – 1945 and 1951 – within the fictional U.S. city of Empire Bay; the game's first chapter takes place in the fictional town of San Celeste in Sicily, while the sixth is set within a prison located outside Empire Bay.” Wikipedia

Games whose English Wikipedia article says they are set in Sicily, where Wikidata’s narrative-location statement stops at the country. Still a setting and not a shoot, and still a sentence rather than a statement: two steps from the strongest evidence on this atlas, and labelled at both.

  • Mafia: The Old Country 2025
“Set in Sicily, Italy, in the early 1900s, the game follows Enzo Favara, a teenaged carusu who becomes embroiled in the rise and fall of the fictional Torrisi crime family.” Wikipedia
