각 행은 실제 장소와 그곳에서 촬영된 작품 가운데 가장 널리 다뤄진 것이다. 순서는 하나의 수치, 즉 그 작품이 실려 있는 Wikipedia 언어의 수에서 나오므로, 이 순위는 믿고 받아들여야 하는 의견이 아니라 직접 확인할 수 있는 것이다. 행마다 다른 영화이며, 34개국, 1922 to 2023.

여기에서 장면으로 인정되는 것

Wikidata는 어떤 작품이 어떤 장소에서 촬영했다는 것을 기록한다. 어떤 장면인지는 결코 기록하지 않으므로, 한 행은 짝을 주장할 뿐 그 이상은 아니다. 다섯 가지 규칙이 그 짝을 당신이 실제로 서 볼 수 있는 장소로 한정한다:

  • 한 지점에 핀이 찍힌 장소만 포함한다. Wikidata가 주소가 아니라 프라하 어딘가 식으로 느슨하게 기록한 촬영은 지도에는 있지만 이 순위에는 없다.
  • Wikipedia가 8개 이상의 언어로 서술한 장소만 포함한다. 그것이 대성당과 한때 카메라를 들인 사무실 건물의 차이다.
  • 사운드 스테이지나 백롯은 제외한다. 스튜디오는 작품이 만들어진 곳이지 작품이 찾아간 곳이 아니다.
  • 20편이 넘는 작품이 사용한 곳은 제외한다. 그만큼 바쁜 곳은 운영 중인 시설이며, 어느 작품의 것도 아니다.
  • 작품마다 한 장면씩, 가장 잘 기록된 장소를 골라 각 행이 서로 다른 영화가 되도록 했다.

각 행은 그 장소가 무엇인지도 Wikidata 자체의 표현으로 알려 준다. 영어 Wikipedia에 그곳에서 실제로 무엇이 촬영되었는지 기록되어 있으면, 그 문장을 행 아래에 인용하고 출처 문서로 연결한다. 150개 행 가운데 86개가 그런 문장을 담고 있다. 나머지는 연결 정보에서 멈추는데, 아무도 기록하지 않은 장면에 대한 정직한 답은 빈자리이기 때문이다.

Wikipedia 수록 범위는 무엇인가가 얼마나 널리 쓰였는지를 재는 것이지, 그것이 얼마나 좋은지나 그 장면이 얼마나 기억에 남는지와는 같지 않다. 그저 이 아틀라스가 셀 수 있는 명성일 뿐이다.
